Buy and sell coins

Our Business

We buy and sell coins, banknotes, and other collectibles. Unlike many other dealers, we are happy to purchase large amounts of relatively low-value material.

We also deal in gold and silver coins, and will generally make competitive offers on any hallmarked gold or silver items.

Newcastle coin dealers are a VAT-registered business that has been trading from Tyne and Wear in the north east of England since 2002.

The business deals with coins, notes, and collectible items through its shop or over the internet.  Unlike most coin traders, we specialise in the buying and selling of common coins and bulk lots.  We provide coins to a wide range of collectors and dealers and like to deal fairly in all transactions so that we gain repeat business.

The History of Shopping and Department Stores in Newcastle upon Tyne

During the Industrial Revolution Newcastle became one of the richest cities in the United Kingdom.

The Industrial Revolution led to the development of new shopping habits such as the demand for large department stores.  These shops offered many goods under one roof.  Newcastle’s first department store was Bainbridge’s which opened in 1838.  The city’s largest department store, Fenwick’s opened in 1882, and it is still open today.

Consequently, Fenwick’s and Newcastle’s other major retailers have played a significant role in the city’s economy.

In the 20th century, Newcastle’s shopping environment developed.  The city’s first major shopping centre, Eldon Square, opened in 1976 and is still one of the largest shopping centres in the United Kingdom.

Recently, Newcastle’s the number of traditional department stores has fallen.  However, the city still has a successful retail sector, with a wide range of shops and shopping centres.  Newcastle is also home to many independent shops, so it still offers a unique shopping experience.

The main department stores are still Fenwick’s and John Lewis formerly the Bainbridge’s brand.  There are independent shops such as in the Central Arcade.

Department Stores and Shops in North Shields

The town centre’s first department stores included D.H. Carter and Bell Brothers which opened its first store in 1903.  Its service included its own coinage and pennies.   Also, Sunderland’s Joplings had a large shop in Bedford Street which closed in 1998.

The town centre had many independent shops including Maynard’s Sweet Shop, Globe’s Boot Shop, Jerome’s The Photographer, Marsh’s The Music Shop, Wood’s The Tailor and Peirson’s school uniform shop.  Online shopping and out-of-town retailing have contributed to the closure of many independent shops in the town centre.  Consequently, the outlets that remain tend to be smaller than the retailers of the past.
